Why so boring?

Why is this site so plain?  Why is a site talking about graphics and web design so lacking in either? 

I decided when doing the original layout that I wanted a simple site.  The main draw is that the site should load more quickly for you.  But I also prefer sites like this.  When I'm looking for information I hate being so bombarded with animations and colors that the information becomes secondary.  I want to keep the information on this site the primary function, so here it sits as a very plain site.
